Diagnosis

Hello All ! I am new to this site. I saw my ,G.P. Last week to discuss my symptoms and he has referred me to see a neurologist. It's a seven month wait, although I called for my appointment and I am there in the beginning of November. The thing is I have just started with another symptom that may be linked ( a constant numbness/tingling in the arch of my right foot ? ) Is it worth going back to my G.P. ? Do you think the appointment would be brought closer. Would the G.P. Send me for an M.R.I to speed things up. What were other people's experiences getting diagnose? Obviously theirs every chance it's not M.S.. Thanks Mark

I guess it depends on how uncomfortable you are with the new symptom. They might send you for an emergency MRI if you're feeling considerably worse or it's having a detrimental effect on your day to day life? When I was diagnosed, I was booked into see a neurologist for an MRI (Or booked for an MRI - I forget which one) and it was a 4 month wait. I then went numb from the chest down a few weeks later and ended up back at the doctors sobbing and I was sent for an emergency MRI (which was still a couple of weeks wait) so it did speed things up a bit but I was in the middle of my first proper relapse so that's why they rushed me through.

Hi @markbacon and welcome. The best thing to do is have a chat with you GP and see what they can do for you. Another option is to offer to accept a cancelled appointment at short notice, if manageable. There is the option of going private, although this is dependant on your personal finances. Get a diagnosis, then switch back to the NHS list.
