Diabetes & MS

I have benign R&R MS. My first optic neuritis was in 1978, then the other eye 12 months later. I had developed diabetes in 1973 and over the years had blamed this for fatigue from time to time, the odd dead arm, stumbling etc. I was not formally diagnosed with MS until 2004 after a major episode where something else seemed to go wrong every day. What I'm wondering is if the diabetic diet - low fat, little sugar and restricted carbohydrates (180 grams a day)has been any help in slowing the progress of the MS? Any ideas?
