Declaring MS with new employer
I have had a new job offer and I am filling in the relevant documents including medical. It is personal to everyone but in your opinion, would you answer Yes to 'do you consider yourself to have a disability'? I have RRMS so a 'disability' is not obvious at this moment.
Or have you told your new employer that you have MS after signing the contract and on the day you start? I don't know what is best. Thank you
@graham_phillips_1 I'm in a similar boat, also have RRMS and currently job hunting. Only recently diagnosed so not sure if I should be making them aware of it or not...as you say a 'disability' isn't exactly visible at the moment! Hopefully some lovely person on here will have some good advice for us.
I'm not quite in the same position so I'm not sure if this will help you both but I have told my employer. More by accident then by an actual thought process. She was there when I got my garbled confirmation over the phone and I kinda fell apart. I don't think you have to declare it, but you might want it to be part of the conversation when talking about sick pay etc. I was lucky and another person in my workplace has ms and has had it for years so my employer does have a vague understanding of the condition. As I said I'm not sure if this has actually helped, but hopefully in a small way it has.
