CT scan

Hi I’m new here and was wondering when I had a CT scan they told me they couldn’t find anything on my brain but then 4 weeks later, they found MS in my spine test results and won’t diagnose me till after an MRI on the Brain. Surely they would of seen something during my CT scan right??

MRI is much more sensitive when it comes to finding brain lesions than a CT scan.

Am I right in thinking that MS can show up on a CT?

From what my neuro told me – very, very rarely. More often than not, MS lesions are not visible on a CT scan and require a more sensitive testing, hence: an MRI.

(this is why an MRI of the brain + spinal cord and –sometimes– lumbar puncture are in official diagnostic criteria, not a CT scan)

How long does everybody wait for scan results. I know it can be 6-8 weeks but how long has everyone waited

@wolfbite1 , give it 2 – 3 weeks, then make a courteous call to the Neuro’s Secretary and enquire. 😉

@wolfbite1 Though CT and MRI both come under the general heading of radiology they are quite different. Magnets vs. Radiation!

The CT does not give detailed enough information about demylenation, MNRI can give incredible detail.

@wolfbite1, before I was diagnosed I had a CT scan as they thought I had had a stroke. Nothing to report. A month later I had an MRI which clearly showed a few lesions, so the MRI shou,d be the clincher. Good luck with everything

@wolfbite1 , I don’t see why not. Try it and see how you feel.

I have regular sports massage to help keep things under control. Combined with stretching and exercise it is great.
