Can I change neurologist?

Hi everyone, just found you today and you clever people can tell me if I’m being dramatic etc. Saw my neurologist 2 weeks ago. Always feel rushed and dismissed really. Anyway this time I explained how exhausted I was, so much so I had to get a lift to the appointment. My cousin then waited in the cafe. I explained this and pointed out how I was very aware that I’d overdone things- worked full- time for a few weeks for extra money. Explained that this opened my eyes to the fact that I am usually better in mornings and that I’ve changed jobs to morning only now. His reply was that I can’t have anymore amantadine ( didn’t ask as I knew I’d overdone things), and that there are people that have MS that are worse off than me. I did say I was well aware of that but everyone is different and my pain levels are not to be compared to someone else. I also explained about symptoms that are text book “hug” and he said if that happens again to go to a&e to check I’m not having a heart attack! He just said see you in a year, bye. To be honest I was speechless (rare thing for me!) and just left. I was in tears by the time I’d met my cousin. She was furious as she sees me on a day to day and knows what I go through. I get the copy of the letter to the GP today which has left my head ringing with his voice all day- probably not helping that I’m having a crappy day anyway but can I ask to swap consultants? How do I do this? Someone also told me I should see a MS nurse or find a support group- how can I do this? I applaud you if you’ve made it this far! Xx

Hi @wilko0161 and welcome. Some of our medical professionals need to brush up on their "bedside manner"! Anyway, it is your right to ask for a second opinion. You can request this with any Neurologist at any hospital. So, it would be worth doing a bit of research regarding local MS Specialists. Then, just ask your GP to make the referral and tell them why.

@mmhhpp

I did change consultants I did need to go to the GP who made a referal letter to the people I wanted to see . I advised to speak to your gp. @wilko0161
