Anne Rowling Centre

Anyone else go to the Anne Rowling Centre in Edinburgh? Just had a call from reception to cancel my first appointment with the neurologist and I’m waiting on a second call to rearrange. I’m really disheartened because it took the woman at reception 5 days before even trying to put my appointment in the system - at which point she realised that someone else had booked my slot and had to phone me! It’s annoying because this is one of my first experiences with the people that are meant to be in charge of my future care, and I even got my Dad to get a day off of work to take me and come along for support. I start back Uni in two weeks and my nurse assured me she would have a support letter ready for me at my next appointment to get things moving with student disability services, and another support letter so that I could apply for a bus pass. I REALLY don’t want to complain about the NHS but surely this shouldn’t be happening like this - they’re saying the earliest they can now see me will be late November, and I don’t want to take the risk of leaving things untreated til then incase I could prevent further lesions.

Hi I go to Anne Rowling too, they have quite an antiquated administration system ( they still have typists) and I have had issues with appointments myself. The nurses have a separate phone number from the reception so you could try giving them a call. Be honest about how anxious you are. Have you just been diagnosed or have you moved address and are now in the care of AR?

Hi @laura-forde I really appreciate you replying 🙏 I’ve just been diagnosed so it sort of knocked me a bit that everything was getting mixed up at this early stage. But like you advised, I phoned the nurses to say how I was feeling and they assured me they were doing their best to find me an appointment that was sooner. I then got a call from a man at the Western General asking me to come in this Saturday (which I’ve said yes to) but I don’t know if AR are aware I have that appointment now...? I did call reception to confirm they knew I was given an appointment at the Western but there was no answer so I had to leave a message asking them to confirm they know I’m at the Western this Saturday for my first neuro appointment. I’ve not had a call back today so I’m hoping thing will get smoothed out tomorrow 🤞🏻 The original appointment time (that had to get cancelled) was given at my first appointment with the MS nurse on Wednesday, and I’m just astounded that nobody tried to book the appointment into the system until this morning! I might see if it’s possible for any future follow-up appointments to be booked into the system at reception before I leave the AR Centre building, that way I know the appointment is definitely mine. Hopefully this is just an occasional mishap and I’ve just had an unlucky first experience. I explained on the phone to the nurse that I’m anxious to get an appointment with a neurologist ASAP so that I can start treatment and get support letters for my return to uni etc. Thanks so much again for letting me know your experience with them - I didn’t want to sound like I was complaining because I know there is a big stress on our NHS but I also felt like things weren’t supposed to happen like that, especially since I’ve just been diagnosed and I’m not familiar with how everything is supposed to work.
