Chezn,
.
I have empathy for your dilemma. I have experienced some of the same things over my 16+ years diagnosed. I am happy to talk and listen to any stresses you would like to share. I have so many coping skills I’ve learned over my time with MS. I am truly happy to help.
.
For your eye twitch there are medications! I also learned this first hand. These can be treated in two ways by drugs in the benzodiazepine class:
.
Clonazepam is a long acting drug. This would be a good choice for preventing muscle spasms like the one in your eye. When I first started taking this 15 years ago a single dose of .25mg a day worked for me. I now take 1mg twice a day (although my prescription says 4x a day in case I need more during stressful times- like maybe the holidays or when extensive travel is required) but usually I stick to the lower dosing schedule.
.
Xanax is a shorter acting version of Clonazepam. You would not take both together. This would be a choice if muscle spasms are generally few and far between for you.
.
Personally I prefer the preventive regimen with Clonazepam rather than treating individual episodes- because I don’t like playing ‘catch up’ once the spasms start.
.
I hope some of that is helpful. I think doing both a medication intervention and looking at the root of the stress so you have more treatment avenues are both important.
.
Please let me know if I can be of any additional help. There are a lot of people here with vast MS wisdom 😉
.
Take care 💜,
Emma
