The UK’s Great North Run is the world’s biggest half marathon, starting in Newcastle city centre and taking in the stunning coastline of South Shields. Renowned for having an incredible atmosphere as well as beautiful scenery, the Great North Run is one of the most sought after events in the runner’s calendar.
From the start line in central Newcastle the route crosses the majestic arch of the Tyne Bridge towards Gateshead. It follows the A184 through Heworth before turning north-east towards the sea. The last mile of the course follows the coastal road to the finish line at South Shields.
It’s massive, it’s amazing and it’s always hugely oversubscribed – so why not run for Shift.ms? We have Great North Run charity places to fill and would be very grateful for your support.
Why fundraise for Shift.ms?
“When I was first diagnosed, I was scared and felt alone, as I didn’t know anyone else who had MS, and knew very little about it. Shift.ms gave me somewhere to connect with other people, and to helped to show me that I’m not the only one going through these things.” – Melissa, MSer
Around 100 people are diagnosed with MS every week. Most people are diagnosed in their 20s and 30s, a time of key life decisions about relationships, family and careers.
Shift.ms aims to reach people with MS (MSers) as soon as possible after diagnosis so they can receive support to adapt to a life with MS. It costs around £25 for us to reach someone newly diagnosed with MS, your fundraising will help us reach more people when they need need us most.
“It’s cool to see a lot of different people with the same thing – you feel much less isolated, you realise other people are doing amazing things and it’s not like life ends now.” – Polly, MSer
