What is your multiple sclerosis song?

The other day I was thinking about what song would be fitting to describe your multiple sclerosis.
I think mine would be either – comfortably numb by Pink Floyd – or Duran Duran’s, ordinarily world

This is a oldy from 79. BEFORE I even had MS, but i decided then, I want this at my funeral.

He starts singing about 30 secs in. You may not share his faith, but its a helluva chorus:

May you live to dance on your own grave: Garth Hewitt

@cazzzzzy oooo, that “Fix you” is so powerful that it is definitely going to get a download from itunes :-).

My current “fight on” song is John Mayer’s “War of My Life” :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Me2bLFKZRc, but I suppose it should really be “In Repair” πŸ™‚

It’s gotta be Shostakovich’s 10th, a bit long, you can’t dance to that much of it but it does just about sum up the experience, the happy ending is not for you but for your carers! Stalin’s death! ‘A symphonic ending that asks more questions than it answers’

johnathanmac

@qaatsi003 Yeah that is a good one, if we are going down the classical route then I would have to pick ‘John Murphy – Sunshine (Adagio In D Minor)’ http://youtu.be/NQXVzg2PiZw It sounds like RRMS, all the highs and lows in the composition reflect relapses to me.

Shostakovich, Classical? 1905 -1975. Orchestral, @jmac. Orchestral. there are intense highs in this music, intense lows too, but only life has the last laugh.

Going through all of your choices, It makes me realise how different we all are, from my always look on the bright side of life, to lots of people saying what there funeral song would be, even though that didn’t seem to be the question, If I was a psychiatrist, I would say a lot of you are barking. So who let the dogs out. Lol.

Then I was reminded that I had been playing this a lot recently….:

Al Wilson The Snake

for classical, it has to be The Lark Ascending by Vaughn Willaims. The sound of the sky larking singing out its heart, set to English music makes me want to cry with pleasure every time I hear it and thinking of it soaring skywards makes it a pretty good song for my funeral too

Just now, listening to this song (David Osmond, β€œI Can Do This” Our Voice In Song: http://youtu.be/2l1lTkKsaDs) I cried for the first time since I got out of the hospital. For the first time in two months of Limboland and a confirmation of my dx today. The first time I cried for knowing that in spite of MS…

I CAN DO THIS!!! It is my life and I own it! MS is gonna have to put up with me.

Have courage everyone! MS feeds with fear. Starve it to death. You can do this too!

Give me time & I’ll no doubt think of plenty, but the first one that came to my head is She by Laura Mvula. I’ve got it playing now as I type this & can feel my eyes welling up! An incredible voice, and, for me, powerful lyrics. I was lucky enough to see her play at Lichfield Cathedral last year, which was an amazing venue for her stuff.

malvina

Hmm… It changes (but most of them are silly pop songs that make me smile and want to jump around/ dance in a dynamic manner. Last year or so I keep going back to this one http://youtu.be/5jlI4uzZGjU (pit bull – enjoy the moment) I definitely do not put any conscious thought into it. Otherwise it would be way too much unnecessary thinking for my liking (so it could very well be that I just like their voices πŸ˜‰ …;0) Mind you the way I feel about my ms is not really all that negative (even though I have this condition for the last 15 years or so). I came to the realisation that it had played a big role in making me into who I am now (and I really love myself, of course ;). Without it I would’ve note become as strong and fragile at the same time, as ruthless but kind/caring and ignorant to absolutely nothing as I’m now… ;0) x x x

Just got off the phone – talking with a fellow struggler who is having a harder time than me. Battles in the head enough to make a grown man cry.

I connect with ‘Zombies’ by the Cranberries which is about the troubles in Ireland but also speak to me of the chaos in my own head:

I know it will touch some of you. Find a quiet place to listen.

What a great thread! Has cheered me up/ brought a tear/ made me reflect in equal measure going through these!

My MSsong has to be this – Unity by Shinedown. http://youtu.be/_gVdi6sizeY

Not a well known song but has helped me no end and signifies that despite the unknown ahead I’m not going to let that scare me from trying to live my life.

Or if I’m feeling pretty beat up from MS and like I wanna give up, Back for more by Five Finger Death Punch – it’s pretty much what you’d expect with a name like that!

This isnt exactly my MS tune, but as soon as i hear it i laugh and think ‘MS’ …partly because of the ‘Monster’ part and secondly because it was on the radio non stop during my diagnosis phase and I’ve just realised who the song is by “The Automatics”.
It’s a good tune never the less and it gives me a giggle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5x29ug8gV5M – Monster by The Automatic

I much prefer Coldplay – fix you or U2 – Beautiful Day suggested by others though πŸ™‚

It must be a song by Ronnie Lane….from the Faces (with Rod Stewart)…who suffered from ms.

His mom had ms as well so I feel like a kindred spirit.

He carried on being productive long after his diagnosis. Right on!

So, this is mine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKTamH__xuQ

Public Enemy – Harder than you think

When I heard the music and saw the video on the advert when it was aired on TV, things suddenly changed towards my outlook on MS. Not that this video or song is about MS, I was in a bad place thinking that MS was going to overcome me and I was unable to move forward for a bit. The combination of this song and this video always makes me believe that achieving your goals are possible.

Weirdly I have been watching Sia – Elastic Heart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWZGAExj-es a lot and I seem to see the relation to MS and the video in terms of feeling caged and fighting your MS. Thought I would throw it in for those who haven’t watched/heard it. Not sure if it is a positive or negative song, I suppose that up to the listener & state of mind at the time to decide πŸ™‚

Some lyrics I can relate to:

“You did not break me
I’m still fighting for peace”

“And I know that I can survive
I’ll walk through fire to save my life”

“I’m like a rubber band until you pull too hard,
I may snap and I move fast
But you won’t see me fall apart”

nrl321

Well Thankyou @johnathanmac that surprised me, I just thought I will click the link out of interest and I found the clip almost perfectly sums up my day yesterday with tears.
Which started with me over balancing, dropping and breaking a plastic watering can then continuing to pick the pieces up to smash them some more. Only to be stopped by my wife wrapping her arms around me and I am yelling “it’s JUST walking why can’t i do it properly”.

All good now thanks again πŸ˜‰

Actually my son Tom put a fun twist on this. He sang ‘the world of multiple sclerosis’ (the song starts Come with me and we’ll see in the world of multiple sclerosis) from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Tom is 18 and has a remarkable acceptance of MS and how it manifests itself. This song keeps me sane as he makes me laugh when he sings it. It also has a certain impact because The Chocolate Factor.y is surreal so is multiple sclerosis

Wanted to revive this thread

Black Sabbath – Snowblind

What you get and what you see
Things that don’t come easily
Feeling happy in my pain
Icicles within my brain

Something blowing in my head
Winds of ice that soon will spread
Down to freeze my very soul
Makes me happy, makes me cold

My eyes are blind but I can see
The snowflakes glisten on the tree
The sun no longer sets me free
I feel the snowflakes freezing me

Let the winter sunshine on
Let me feel the frost of dawn
Build my dreams on flakes of snow
Soon I’ll feel the chilling glow

Don’t you think I know what I’m doing
Don’t tell me that it’s doing me wrong
You’re the one that’s really the loser
This is where I feel I belong

Kiss the world with winter flowers
Turn my days to frozen hours
Lying snowblind in the sun
Will my ice age ever come?
