Flu vaccine

So it’s that time of year again. Winter’s coming and the flu vaccine is available. I’ve recently been diagnosed with RRMS (January) and have never had, or thought about having, the flu vaccine?
Any opinions? Is it worth getting?

Personally I say yes, getting the flu on top of RRMS is not something you want, you are within the group of people for whom it is advised (and free if you are in UK)
It is not always 100% effective but even if you develop flu it will be much less severe if you have had the vaccine.
Earlier in life I had the flu twice, I have never forgotten it !

if you’re unsure however check with your MS nurse and team.

I recommend asking your neuro because they’re all different and it depends on if you’re starting treatment and which one. Best of luck!

@strawberryblonde , the consensus of opinion is yes, get the flu jab.

Flu itself is very debilitating. Flu, with MS, is more than twice as bad. So, Flu is worth avoiding.

Hi there, yes, most medical teams also support us having the jab. We need all the help we can get!

Go for it, you’ve got enough to deal with without Flu as well.

I was told that it is essential and it seems to be on my MS nurse’s checklist to ask me.

Thank you for all your views. I’m seeing my ms nurse tomorrow for a review so I’ll talk to her too. I’m having a relapse at the moment so I imagine I should probably wait until I’ve recovered from it before getting the flu jab?!

I always get mine and it’s even more important now that I’m doing Lemtrada.

A few years ago the concencus of opinion from the ms nurse was not to have it, as the vaccine that year was found to give people’s dose. i assume it was only that year but I never have heard differently so assume everything is now ok. But worth checking with your ms nurse.😍
