FINALLY!!!!!!!

So today I’ve finally seen my MS specialist for the first time since diagnosis!! I was a little blind sided by the fact that up to now I’ve been told I had ‘probable’ RRMS now it’s rapidly evolving RRMS, I qualify for gilenya and tysabri….this has NEVER been mentioned before now. I’ve had all the pre-testing done today apart from the JV virus (?) screening….things just got a little scary!!

It is really scary hearing you qualify of gilenya and tysabri! I have my test results for that next week, I’m thinking I’d prefer Avonex as well, hope everything goes well for you

Hi Ophelia.

Not sure on the JV virus issue but there are 2 subtypes of JC virus and a simple blood test takes care of that. Uncertain whether your Avonex comes in pill form or injections. If the latter, good luck on that. Glad you opted for Avonex because it sounds the one with the least side effects. For those starting out on MS treatment, it definitely sounds the better option. Good luck and take care.

I meant JC sorry!! Typo!
And Avonex is one of the first line beta interferons and it’s an IM injection once a week. I want to get started on ‘something’ sooner rather than later. At least I have to option to go to second line in the future if I need it. If I’m positive for the JC virus though I don’t know if I’d opt for tysabri….and gilenya quite frankly terrifies me!!! They all terrify me to be honest but that one the most….!! :0/

Och, I’m renowned for typos. You’re right, most of the MS medications are rather daunting. Everyone wants something to relieve symptoms but sometimes the meds sounds so bad, it can be off putting and you wonder if the benefits outway the side effects. I seriously wouldn’t opt for Tysabri, though. Personal choice on your part if you decide to go for it but do read up on it and get advice. Good luck, Ophelia.

Angela.
