Ear ringing…

Hi all,
I mentioned a few days ago about me being undiagnosed at the moment. But have any of you had ear ringing as a symptom? I’m not taking any tablets for anything so it’s not a symptom of tablets of any sort. I’ve had it for about 2 months now. I suppose it’s tinnitus but strange how I’ve never had it in my life before. It’s not so much in my ears i would say it’s more a high pitched ring inside my head. Doctors aren’t bothered by it, but just another thing on the ever growing list!!!

I know exactly how that goes and feels. Typically when I have ringing…its a high pitch note that piercingly lasts anywhere between and few seconds to a few minutes and then typically I go deaf for a few seconds to minutes afterwards.
It can be very disconcerting and worrisome.

My suggestion (especially if the doctors aren’t worried about it right now) is to start a symptom diary. Just whenever you have any symptom or weird event – write it down along with the date and time. That way when things start getting addressed properly you have a fully documented symptom diary for them to see. Which will also help you keep track of all of your symptoms over time.

Sadly to date I haven’t found anything that helps with this annoying symptom (which I would also guess is tinnitus).

Good luck and hope things get better!

I get that quite a bit but I suppose I never really thought of it as a symptom. I’ll often get a high pitched ring in one ear that just gets louder and a bit painful for a couple of seconds.

Its so annoying this is constant. To be honest I only hear it if in a quiet room, but its so apparent when I go to bed cause everything in the house is quiet.

Yes I too totally relate to the ear ringing. I have it pretty much all the time but it is most noticeable when it’s quieter in the room. I also have bouts of diminished hearing particularly in my left ear, but then again, my left side tends to be the side where my symptoms are more pronounced. I am awaiting the day I lose hearing altogether in that ear but for now it’s just ringing and I haven’t figured out how to answer it yet 😛

Completely understand the ear-ringing. I get it most days. Its like the sensation of leaving a night-club or loud concert (something I have not done for years). I have put this down to acute hearing.I am usually laying in bed with my door shut, my Dad can be across the hall in his study with his door shut, and I can hear him turn the page of his book! SO annoying!

I’ve got a short wave radio in my head. It never switches off. It used to keep me awake at night and took many years to get used to it being there all the time.

Not literally, lol. It feels like I have the radio in my head.

I suffer from it, and it sometimes appears during a relapse, so I assume it is MS related. I can hear it above a loud TV sometimes! They think it is related to brain stem lesions.
The MS Trust has some info on hearing and MS (which talks about tinnitus) http://www.mstrust.org.uk/atoz/hearing.jsp.

Thanks for your info, I’ve had it for a couple of months now without letting up. Maybe when I get a definate diagnosis it will answer some questions.

I have constant high pitched ear ringing in both ears. Sometimes it changes tone. At this point, it has become part of my “normal” way of being. I have gone to ENT doctors and according to them there is no remedy other than a hearing device that can distract you from the sound.

I have had ringing in my ears like for at least twenty years and at times it gets very bad.
