car hand controls :(

ok my nero is saying to me i need to start thinking about hand controls as now my “good” leg is begining to play silly buggers
my question is what do you guys uses how much was it to get fitted i get the higher rate mobility for pip so i think i can get a mobility car do i have to pay ontop for hand controls ???

@xander , hand controls are something that I migrated to a couple of years ago. In all honesty, I probably could have done with them a couple of years earlier!

Anyway, there are Driver Assessment Centres around the country that will help you see what you need. (http://www.motability.co.uk/about-us/news-and-information/expert-advice-mobility-centre)

Personally, I just went for hand controls. I found that switching to hand controls just needed a change of mental understanding similar to changing from manual to automatic driving.

You can get these fitted to your own car, at your expense. Or, you can apply for a vehicle on a Motability contract, using the mobility component of your LDA/PIP. There may be a non-returnable cash deposit required based on your choice of car and any factory fitted extras that you request. But, hand controls may well be fitted with no additional cost to you.
