Long term anti-biotics?

Hey everybody. I was offered long tern anti-biotics about 6 months ago after finding out the side affects and all that i decided against the idea. Since then i’ve had 2 more urine infections and considering going long term. Anyone got any advice? Anyone taking them long term?

I’ve not had any experience with long-term antibiotics but gut feeling says that if you’re on them long term then surely a resistance will develop eventually?

a few months ago michelle1 commented on a post called ‘the dreaded uti’ she said that she was on a couple of things including long term low dose antibiotics she might be able to help. in my experience uti’s can be a real problem, i’ve had times when i get one a month for months on end then they fade back again and might only get one a year.
i’ve given up anything that could irritate my bladder, caffeine, tea, alcohol. it was done reluctantly but has given me some relief from urgency problems. have you seen a specialist bladder and bowel nurse yet? they might go through a number of different options, ask for a referral from your ms nurse. good luck with your decision

I’m exactly the same – getting about one a month at the moment for the past 6 months. Seeing my urologist in April and I suspect she’s going to offer me long term low-dose antibiotics. My aunt takes them for recurrent UTIs so I reckon I’ll probably take them…
