Exercise bike?

Was talking to a neighbour last night, he was a Rugby coach/physio for many years. He suggested getting an exercise bike, no way I could ride a 'normal' bike as I have no balance! What do you think? Find it hard to swim as problems with my numb arm, plus driving to pool as vision problems and grip issues. Tried exercise DVDs but again can't do arm exercises. Fatigue is a big problem, but sure I could start little and build up? Don't want to make the pains in my legs worse.
@Stumbler

I use an exercise bike, just to try and keep things working. I can only manage 1Km, in chunks, which isn't terrific, but I do try and do it daily. Yes, you shouldn't fall of it, but you might need a "step" to get on the bike. Try a book or something to assist mounting the bike.

@markms

try a cross trainer i have one it does help and its alot easyer or if you cant do that one with a seat they are good every little helps.
