ISC.....

Can anyone help with this plz? Just a few months ago I started peristeen irrigation and although it's not enjoyable- if it has to be done then that's that. Now my bladder is failing and I'm about to (next week) begin Intermittent self catheterization. For the 1st time in my life I'm terrified as I can't get my head round putting a lubricated straw like 'thing'a'majig' in this area!! I recently read that infection is a common thing with ISC but my com nurse disputes this and said this dosnt happen???

@cherish , Intermittent Self Catheterisation (ISC) is an unfamiliar and alien procedure, but as we go through life, we introduce procedures into our life and they become familiar and routine. There are many benefits to being able to empty your bladder fully. Yes, with introducing anything inside your body, there is a risk of infection. But, if you observe all of the aseptic protocols you can mitigate this risk.

@Stumbler Thanks for that. Linda (my nurse) said that hygiene is key and if that's followed there shouldn't be much issues. Still, it's just the thought of that particular area. Well well, I guess once I get the hang of it then it will be nice to feel 'relieved'. :)
