Travelling with medication - help!

Hi, not sure if anyone else has been in a similar situation. I need to travel with 3mths supply of Avonex to Europe but am finding it difficult to get a commitment from the airline that my three medical cool bags (each one contains 1mth supply of Avonex) will be accepted when I arrive at check-in as additional hand luggage to my usual allowance. I obviously need my normal hand luggage allowance for my personal items (computer, documents, handbag etc). Does anyone have any tips on what to do? The last thing I want is to turn up at the airport and the lady at check-in doesn't know any better and says I can't fly as I have too much hand luggage and need to check it in!?

Hiya, I suggest that you get a letter from both your neurologist and, if possible, the company that makes your meds indicating why it has to be carried on board. I travelled to Abu Dhabi with my Rebif and had two letters and they didn't blink an eye.Just don't panic because these kind of things happen. I'm sure airport security has seen it all and if you are prepared for anything there's nothing much they can say. Good luck

Thanks for that. I do have a letter from my neurologist and my Avonex 'passport' stamped by the GP surgery. However, I know of someone else who had the same documents and was still stopped at check-in and had to put all her other baggage into checked-in luggage as the lady at the check-in desk insisted that the cool bag was not an 'additional' hand luggage item but classed 'within' the allowance so everything else had to be checked-in. (And it was the UK's main airline - so not even some low-cost airline!?) As I have three cool bags, I want the airline's commitment before I turn up at the airport that it won't be an issue to have as well as my ordinary hand luggage allowance. I actually don't think security will be an issue - they are usually pretty ok. It's the check-in and boarding staff I'm concerned about!
