Right to record medical appointments?

I was wondering if anybody knows of any organizations that are campaigning for the right to record our medical appointments? It's a small thing, but I think it might make a huge difference. I know I'm not the only one who wants to be able to record appointments so that I can better remember what happened later on, without relying on a medical letter that will take weeks to arrive and will inevitably include some inaccuracies. Of course I also want to have recorded evidence if a doctor unfairly dismisses my symptoms or demonstrates a prejudice against me for whatever reason. Most doctors refuse to allow me to record our appointments, because they are scared that recordings can be used against them. Some say "would you like it if you were recorded at work?" But many people are recorded as part of their jobs, e.g. call centre workers and police, because their actions at work impact the welfare of the general public, so I think it should be okay for doctors to be recorded as well. I'm not generally a fan of surveillance. It's galling that everything I do on the internet is monitored, there are security cameras everywhere I go, and every call I make to a switchboard is "recorded for training and quality purposes", and yet STILL I don't personally have the right to record interactions that I know will have a huge impact on my life. I would like to know if there are patients' rights organisations campaigning for this, as I'm sure it's a complicated issue and there must be people with many years' experience who have a better sense of what needs to happen.

I’m sorry I can’t help with any campaigning organisations however I record all of my appointments because I have trouble relaying the information to my husband so I just asked the neurologist beforehand if he minds.. I’ve not had any issues recording .

I'm so glad your neurologist is willing to allow it, and it's good to hear that it helps you to convey information to your husband. Recordings are extremely helpful for passing information on to the loved ones who are involved in our care.
