Reasonable adjustments gentle rant

Twice in the last 3 years I have asked for reasonable adjustments in my workplace. My employer talks big about staff wellbeing and support and inclusiveness. I have the support of my line managers. But each time it has taken months and months to get the request progressed and finally the delivery has just not happened. There is a total disconnect between the management alleged ethos and the operational elements needed to understand and implement. Thank you, I feel better now 😅

Hi @sue50, there have been a few similar conversations about this type of thing just recently. Are you in a union? As a minimum, you should ask for an Occupational Health assessment to help establish recommended reasonable adjustments. Do you have any sort of an email trail with any requests to your management? If not, why not start the ball rolling with an email asking for a meeting to discuss RAs and/or a referral for an OH Assessment. You got this! x

Hi Vixen, I got as far as an OH appointment, they supported me and put forward for a workstation assessment. My employer does not commission such appointments externally but uses staff who do dse assessments as an add on to their main role and hence lack real expertise as to what adjustments would effectively meet my needs. So it’s left to me to try and guess what chair would help. The whole process to get to this point has taken 6 months and boiled down to here’s the catalogue, pick the cheapest one that will be ok.
