refusal of steroids

Sometimes i see notes on here that people's MS nurse or Neuro gets them onto steroids as soon as. I cant seem to understand but neither of mine are happy to give steroids as it can make you have weak bones etc. So basically i was going for a new treatment but that couldnt happen as my bloods are too low. Both my nurse and dr say sit it out it will go etc etc but ive had these problems for 10 weeks now and still no closer to any treatment. I am no longer on DMD's as had to stop these 4 weeks before the other treatment so im panicking that all these new problems are causing me more damage then i already have, i just want a break from it all but it seems ongoing at the mo, surely im should have more treatment options whilst im awaiting my bloods results ggrrrrrrrrrrr!
@Gav

They will only prescribe you steroids if your relapse is causing you big problems (optic neuritis, muscle weakness etc) so it qill really depend on how severe your relapse is. Couple that with the fact that the more courses of steroids you have, the less effective they become. Relapses suck balls, but sometimes the balls they suck are bigfger than others, I hope you feel better soon.

@janep

I was really shocked when I was given steroids for my last relapse as I'd never been offered them before and it didn't seem that different to the others, but they had all been sensory (numb legs) whereas this had left me with quite a bit of weakness in my leg which was really affecting my mobility. I don't think there are any hard and fast rules but it would appear that some kind of decision about severity and impact of the symptoms is used to help decide. I definitely understand why you're feeling frustrated about not being on DMDs! Hope you manage to get onto your new therapy soon!
