Time between diagnosis and treatment in the UK

Hi everyone! Already feeling thankful for this community even if we all wish we weren’t in it! Last week my GP and then the on call neurologist confirmed over the phone I have MS after MRI results. I had a scheduled appointment with my neurologist (who I saw at the hot clinic due to numbness and tingling down one side) in 3 weeks but it’s just been cancelled and moved to the end of June. This seems so far away especially as it seems very active (my original symptoms recovered and now I have new ones and the on call neuro told me he’d try move my appointment forward). I’m keep to get the ball rolling on treatment ASAP. I know the NHS is under pressure and this has been exasperated by covid so I was wondering what your experiences have been on waiting times? Anyone else in the Bristol area? Up for DMs from anyone who fancies a chat! :)

Here in Devon we get to see a neurologist for 10 minutes once a year! But speak to your MS Nurse about any issues and they'll act quickly. And once you get to know your neurologist, they're pretty proactive. I was admitted to hospital recently after I broke my foot, and my neurologist came to see me in the ward. I'd had an xray that didn't find the break. But because my neurologist knows I deal with a lot of pain, he knew I hadn't just sprained it, and booked me in that day for an MRI, which found the break. And hence they treated my foot properly after his intervention.

Hey Steve, Thanks for your reply! Sorry to hear about your broken ankle, hope you have a quick recovery. So this brings another question! How quickly did you get assigned an MS nurse? I’ve literally had the phone call where the on call neuro gave me 3 treatment options he thought I’d be recommended so I could think about them about get ahead but other than that, the appointment now booked for 7 weeks away, the internet and the resources on here... I have nothing!
