Interferon B 1-B, any experience?

Hi! I've been diagnosed with ms a few months ago and i'm starting my treatment with betaferon or extavia (which both are interferons B 1-B). Does anyone have any experience in the meds? I'd like to know your story :)

@jessica2996 , the interferons have been used as a first line treatment for MS for some years now, so there's a fair amount of experience available. The interferons are well tolerated, although there is a possibility of experiencing flu-like symptoms shortly after receiving the injection. This is relatively short-lived and can be managed using Ibuprofen and Paracetamol. The fear of the injection is a lot worse than the injection itself.

Hiya. I've been on Betaferon for 8 months. I'd decided I would experience no side effects and would need no time off work. That's not exactly how it panned out and I needed a week off because I felt like I'd been run over by a truck but it got better day by day, I went back to work full time a week in and after 2 months didn't have any side effects left other than injection site reactions and mild hair loss at 6 months (now resolved). I'd say just don't think about your first injection, don't hesitate, just do it, kind of like getting into freezing cold sea, it gets worse the longer you put it off I imagine! Good luck, be kind to yourself for a week or two! X
