Not amused.....😡

I was walking, using my poles, on a narrow track in the countryside yesterday, when a car appeared in front of me. He stopped, but because I didn’t trust myself to try and get up on the banked kerb, I just tucked in and indicated he should drive past me. He set off slowly, then pretended to swerve towards me as if to knock me over! He was very happy with his little joke and gave me a chirpy smile and thumbs up as he drove off....... I’m still stunned to think that anyone could be so stupid and horrible! Having a disability brings enough challenges, but yesterday I felt like a human target. Take care out there folks - there are some strange people about!

Sounds like the driver was really dangerous and inconsiderate. Some people are unbelievable! Hope you are okay?

Did you get his number plate? I'd report him for dangerous driving. It shocks me how many drivers do not know that if there is no pavement the pedestrian has priority. So theoretically he should have stopped to let you pass rather than the other way round. I also refuse to climb up into banks, but have never been treated quite like this.

@d'Izzy Some people are just foolish idiots with very little or no understanding at alll of disability, makes me so mad and angry when I hear about things like this.

Thanks folks- I think I was so shocked it didn’t occur to me to get his number. I appreciate your responses x

Very callous thing to do. Glad you’re ok. It’s an ‘in the moment thing’ getting his plate. I think the shock of what your experiencing takes away rational thought. Be lucky.

There is simply no accounting for some people nowadays. I often wonder if I should wear a big banner that proclaims my disability. OK - I'll say it for you - what a complete and utter twat.

Thanks again everyone- it really does help to see your comments - especially @AndreaG I hadn’t been on shift for a while, but when that happened to me it seemed like obvious place to vent and it’s been great to get your support. Thanks very much - hope everyone’s day is going as well as it can x

Some people are crap. I doubt they imagined they were buggering about with a less than able person. Let it go or you'll be driven nuts. usually thoughtless and stupid, rarely intended to target a disabled person. PS: I too walk with poles and have a certain ability to make myself heard - think howl of a drill sergeant - so I may have used loud sailor-style language ;) Not a recommended conflict resolution style.

Thanks @DominicS - good advice on letting it go, might also consider practicing drill sergeant howl 😂

@d1zzy Raising your voice can freak people right out ;) Came in handy doing some supply teaching at an all-boys school. Deploy it v infrequently, but when you do it stops them in their tracks.
