HSCT is the same procedure that has been performed on people with cancer since the 1960s, on people up to age 65. (chemo followed by bone marrow transplant). It basically is chemotherapy followed by a bone marrow transplant. It stops MS as the chemotherapy removes the old “twisted” autoimmunity that attacks the brain and spinal cord. The stem cells are from your own bone marrow. they will develop into autoimmune cells. As they are stem cells, however, they do not have the "memory" to attack. MS is halted.
