Tecfidera side effects

I'm almost 9 months in with taking tecfidera and I am still having side effects almost every day. I have diarrhoea, stomach cramps, and nausea almost daily. I also have intermittent flushing, itching and vomiting. It's very unpleasant. I am taking the tablets on a full meal, using immodium and simeticone when I need to but still finding it really hard going. I never felt this unwell when I was not taking any DMD, and my quality of life is really suffering. Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with this? I'm starting to conclude that this just is not the right medication for me. Has anyone else given up on a DMD because of side effects?

@sciencegeek , nine months sounds like you've given the Tecfidera a fair "crack of the whip". What does your MS Nurse say about these ongoing problems?

@potter

There are people who can't seem to tolerate a DMT and have to change, it sounds like you are at that point. I have been on Tec for four years, it took me several months to get pass the side effects. I found that certain foods caused me more trouble like diarrhea, beans was one of them. My neuro had me quit taking Flaxseed Oil because it is a natural laxative. I cut them out of my diet for a while and slowly added them back in. If I take Tec at the end of the meal instead of the middle I would get a upset stomach. I take a acid reducer if I am going to have a spicy meal. I took Rebif shots for five years and always had that getting over the flu side effect, sometimes I would fall asleep sitting up during the day. I hope you find a DMT that works for you. Potter
