Is RRMS turning into SPMS inevitable?

Hi everyone, I was recently diagnosed with MS this past August of 2021 after going through my first relapse in May. Since then I’ve started Ocrevus and have seen improvements in my symptoms which primarily affected my wrists. My question is with the new DMTS is the transition to Spms still a guarantee? I spoke to my neurologist about this who’s not an MS specialist that holds the same belief that I read online about it taking 20 years to occur on average. Do you personally think this is outdated information? It doesn’t make sense to me considering these high efficacy treatments are known to put MS in NEDA for years.

My neuro told me that most people who are diagnosed now days aren’t excpected to get to the SPMS stage because of the new DMT’s!

That is great to hear! I love the positivity. It really didn’t make sense to me to still hold the belief about the 20 year transition to Spms. But I’m not putting down my neurologist. she was great at diagnosing me fast and getting me on one of the best dmts around. Now let’s keep our fingers crossed that remyelination becomes a thing in the next decade.🤞🏻
