Stem cell therapy in London, availabilty

Dear all, Some of you may recall me, although I have not posted regularly of late. I have seen a variety of posts debating the availability or lack thereof of aHSCT outside a trial setting. Just to clarify, it; 1. Is available on the NHS 2. Is subject to fulfilling a strict criteria determined by your referral by your own GP or neurologist to the requisite neurologists in London; pls see link below 3. Is thereafter, subject to approval by a board of neurologists and haematologists who rule upon each case advanced to them. 4. If rejected at the outset, it is possible to put one's case forward again should circumstances change e.g MRI inflammatory lesions/failure of certain high efficacy DMDs etc 5. This is completely unrelated to the Sheffield trial which may sometimes consider on compassionate grounds 6. There are a multitude of other options available in countries including Russia, 2 in Mexico, Singapore, Chicago, Israel, India etc etc 7. This is a high (debatable) risk procedure, with some centres having higher incidences of issues than others so research carefully! 8. Kings plus Hammersmith are the London treating centres 9. The treatment criteria favours the young and relatively newly diagnosed with RRMS, but has worked successfully in SPMS and PPMS, although it is often far more stringent a process to satisfy the UK criteria in this regard, although this is not the case abroad 10. Different centres abroad treat patients with a higher EDSS 11. The centres abroad have often lengthy waiting lists, so if interested, it is advisable to contact the relevant centre and request your name be placed on the list. No money is required as a deposit at this stage. Some can be over a year or two so provides ample opportunity to attempt to raise the requisite funds if unsuccessful in the U.K. Again, some countries may treat earlier on compassion grounds. 12. There is talk of a possible further clinical trial in of HSCT v drugs for newly diagnosed patients, but this had yet to be decided. The link referred to in number 2 is below: http://multiple-sclerosis-research.blogspot.com/2016/01/london-ms-ahsct-collaborative-group.html?m=1 Good luck! Monica

Just to clarify if anyone is thinking of going to Russia to use Swiss Medic for stem cell therapy then please contact me before you spend a penny. It's a scam. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Admin : E-mail address removed to protect privacy. Yes, Gerry, Swiss Medica is a scam! Dr Federenko's clinic in Russia is one of the most reputable in the world. 13. NO CHEMO, NO CURE, as the adage goes. However. Gerry, I would advise against posting your personal details online as it is visible by the entire public as this is not a closed site. 14. Another point I omitted to mention is that the treatment consists of chemotherapy, injections to stimulate growth hormones within the bone marrow, stem cell harvest and subsequent stronger chemotherapy. Finally, the stem cell harvest. So essentially this is a bone marrow transplant as given to leukaemia and lymphoma patients so they obviously take priority. 15. Re the risk profile, the death rate is quoted as between 1-3%, subject to the centre, unforeseen issues and pre-existing disability levels/ health issues. This may be due to ensuing infections pre, during or post transplant. Whilst rare, it is obviously a significant factor to consider. Consequently, RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH! 16. It is not a treatment for all. Careful screening and exacting procedures are in place in London at least, to ensure that the process is suitable for the candidate most likely to benefit, whereby the risk v benefit is obviously merited. There is a percentage of people for which this treatment has not deemed to have been effective, known as "non responders". 17. Finally, the aim thereof is to HALT PROGRESS. Any symptomatic relief thereafter is to be considered a bonus if the body has sufficient reserves to now heal without the relentless onslaught of relapses/profession. My soliloquy is now over! Have a good day.,😊
