Newly diagnosed.. Just finished steroids feeling rough and confused!

Hi, I was recently diagnosed in July I'm only 27 and have been on a roller coaster of emotions over the last few months from denial to anger and now just completely hopeless! My nurses put me on a 5 day 500mg a day course of steroids which I finished yesterday but I am feeling worse than ever, very blurred vision, numb face, cannot walk far at all and spinning head! Is this a normal reaction to them? They told me I could feel like this for weeks to come which is great having two young kids under 6 to look after! I'm still going through the process of waiting for MRI results to determine which type of ms I have and yet to talk to the nurses about dmds... Just feeling a bit left in the lurch

hi @kimberleylouise627 . Steroids are not an instant fix. It's a high dosage of a steroid that is produced naturally by the body and will help you to recover. The steroids will start to assist your recovery over the course of the next 6 - 8 weeks. You're probably suffering now from the steroid crash as the body gets used to this high dose. As for the range of emotions post-diagnosis, they have been suggested that you need to navigate the following emotional phases :- 1. Shock and Denial 2. Pain and Guilt 3. Anger and Bargaining 4. Depression, reflection, loneliness 5. The upward turn 6. Reconstruction and working through 7. Acceptance and hope It is a rollercoaster ride and you can double-back and revisit phases. The complete journey can take up to a year or more. So, go easy on yourself and ride this storm out. I appreciate that being a young Mum is very demanding, but try and pace yourself. If the kids have a nap, try and have one too. MS is a manageable condition. It's a case of working out how to live in harmony with an unwelcome guest. Hope this helps.
