The double tick disability employer logo?

I have been trying to sort the reasonable adjustments stuff out which has to be done before an application for the Access to Work Scheme can be made. I work at one of the largest Universities in England which has the double tick disability logo. This is meant to show it is responsive and supportive of disabled people, including employees. Well it has all become a farce. I've spent hours filling in a disability passport which outlines my needs and what is necessary for me to have to complete my job. I've sourced equipment as best I can (since this is a new experience for me I am not entirely sure) and requested expert assessments from the RNIB and AbilityNET. These have all been refused on the grounds that if the equipment cannot be bought from Office World then they cannot provide it and the cap for reasonable adjustments is £150 which has to come from my own project funding. So far more than 19 individuals have all seen my confidential information held within my passport which is supposed to be only seen by HR and my immediate manager. My manager has been in tears and is dealing with her own carer demands and health needs. I feel devastated for her and feel this has snowballed into a blame game with both of us being belittled and made to feel like idiots. There is no named person in HR who deals with Access to Work, no person in IT (which employs more than 200 people) who works with accessibility for staff (plenty for students) and no operational disability HR staff group. I am not in the union because it is too expensive. I'm on a graduated return to work but using my A/L for 50% of my time but know that this is discretionary and that more senior staff have been paid 100% full salary for sick leave but my condition is not seen as serious and apparently I can "see fine" as "I'm not walking into walls" I cannot drive and have 10% vision in the left eye with a less than 10% chance of it returning in the next year as despite treatment it has not resolved. I have no colour vision in either eyes. I feel very confused and it has been suggested I pack in work and simply go to the job centre where I would be more rapidly eligible to join the access to work scheme. I've given 22 years to medical research and feel this simply a cull of an older employee. I don't understand how these large organisations are awarded these logos. To me they are as meaningful as a unicorn dropping.

WOW this is absolutely outrageous the way that you have been treated. Largest university in UK. 19 individuals seeing your confidential information. I would be insensed about this. My stuff is private it is no one else’s business apart from people who need to know. You must have an OH department who should be able to help you. I don’t know much about MS shift - I am new here. But pretty sure the MS society had some kind of free legal help. It is a shame about your managers problems but there should be someone able to help you, can you go to her manager? That is the job they are supposed to do what they get paid for - manage Good luck 💜x💜

@Flowerfairymin

Ps don’t pack in work as you will lose any entitlement you might be owed such as Ill Health Retirement if that’s the way you think you should go
