New to ms

Hi, just wanted to post say hello... I was diagnosed in May 2014 with relapsing remitting ms... It's been quite a journey I'm 26 and a mum to 2 little girls age 4 and 2 and getting married in November. I've been so scared of the diagnosis and suffering a lot with anxiety! Hoping to hear some good stories of people living with ms. I should be starting on tecfidera in October wondering if anyone else is on this treatment and there experiences? Thanks you xxx

Hi, @Gemma1988 , it sounds like a busy end of they year for you. Although, a diagnosis of MS 6 months before your wedding was not part of the plan, I'm sure. Right, good stories of MS. Well, first of all, it isn't terminal and is now a manageable condition. But, do try and introduce balance into your life - a balanced diet and a balanced lifestyle - try and avoid extremes. We also suggest "listening to your body". It will normally let you know if you're over-doing it and it wants a rest. Now, if I suggested avoiding anxiety and stress, you'd think I was from another planet. I mean, two little girls, a diagnosis of MS and a forthcoming wedding - what's to get stressed about! But, seriously, stress does cause your brain to do funny things, releasing chemicals that can impact your Central Nervous System (CNS), the same target as your MS! Anyway, it's never a good time to get a diagnosis of MS. But, if you had to get one, then now isn't a bad time, as medical science continues to move forward, with new medications, e.g. Tecfidera, being introduced. So, if you have time, learn about your MS and how to live in harmony with it. Knowledge is power. And post any questions that you may have and we'll do our best to answer them. There's been a few posts regarding Tecfidera:- https://shift.ms/topic/tecfidera-2/ https://shift.ms/topic/tecfidera-3/ https://shift.ms/topic/tecfidera-versus-aubagio/ https://shift.ms/topic/starting-tecfidera-today/ https://shift.ms/topic/tecfidera-and-its-impact/ https://shift.ms/topic/tecfidera-anyone-else-on-this/ Oh, and welcome to our piece of cyberspace.

Hi I am also a VERY new to MS (although my uncle has had it for 25 years now). Diagnosed two and signed up to this website one day ago. But I suspected this and researched on MS since last year. I have also been trying to come to terms with the dx but I have not yet had any major emotions. I do not think I am in denial but I am worryingly calm and have not even been sad yet! I wish I could get that done and over with so I can start focusing on my wellbeing. Altough I can't completely know how you feel since i have no children and there is only me and my boyfriend to take care of right now and rest of my family lives in different country. I wish you all the best and hope everything goes well on your wedding day. Keep positive and as they often say - laugh is the best doctor. Take care
