Lemtrada or Gilenya?

After almost 3 years on Tysabri I've stopped taking it because I've now become JC positive. I've been offered Lemtrada and Gilenya and will now look into both options. Any recommendations? I'd love to hear - thanks. Danny

@dannyJ, I have no experience of Gilenya, so cannot comments, and have just received Lem. Maybe someone who has experienced both is better placed to comment, but having had the option of all DMTs, (11 years experience) I opted for the former. It is still early days, and more patience is required on my part prior to hopefully obtaining its benefits. There any many threads on it here, listing its numerous significant potential beneficial effects. I personally believe it has more promise than any other, the reasons why will be evident if you read former posts. However, others have reported faring well with the latter also. There are some who are vociferous in support of Lem, and I'm sure you will hear from them. I am, but somewhat more measured in making bold claims until I am in a position to speak from personal experience and am naturally more cautious in any event. However, the scientific evidence thereon is inpressive! Good luck whichever decision you make. I believe it depends on where you are physically and mentally.

Thanks all. I'll read through the links. Much appreciated- my inclination is Lem.

@dannyj, Orlando27 is correct, and having researched all the DMTs extensively having avoided them like the plague for 10.5 + years, it was abundantly clear for me that there were no other alternatives worth considering. I'm saying this now as you are going down the same train of thought independently!

Thanks everyone. Assuming the LP is OK, Lem it will be. Happy Xmas.

@dannyj, good luck with both! Just noticed how long ago you were dx. Did the Tysabri keep up I fully functional, and were you using other DMTs before then?

I was diagnosed in 2002. Did no DMTs initially, then Avonex for 7 years and now Tysabri for almost 3. I'm still fully functional but have just become JC positive so want to change treatment.

You have done remarkably well then to stay so well!

I am currently on Gilenya and have been since before it was PBS approved. However, my neuro informed me at my latest appiontment in November 2015 that there is now evidence of JC virus developing on Gilenya - which is totally new. I am waiting for blood tests atm but will be switching to Lemtrada if I have the JC virus. Also, having been on Gilenya for approxiamtely 4 years, whilst it has been wonderful (oral tablet everyday - no injections) i have started relapsing this year on it - which my neuro has said is indicative that it may not be a medication to stay on 'long term' in any event. Hope this helps!

I just got this in an email, maybe it will help a little, maybe not, I don't know. But good luck with your choice :) http://www.healthline.com/health/multiple-sclerosis/about-lemtrada?utm_source=Benchmark%20Email&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=ms
