I’m a poet and recently diagnosed.

I write to process. I wanted to share what I wrote. Maybe someone could resonate. Small talk with the barista—both of us yawning, acknowledging the weight of the morning. I hope this cup gets me going, I say. As he moves to hand me the cup, his grip lingers, a brief pause in the exchange. But this is decaf, he reminds me. And suddenly, I’m unraveling—explaining medical history, the placebo of ritual, how wrapping my hands around this cup is the closest I come to feeling like the person I used to be. I don’t know why I’m justifying myself to a stranger. Or if I was really justifying myself to myself. And I don’t think either of us were really listening. abf Writers please share anything you’ve written about your MS journey. 🧡

I wrote this triolet poem about my MS journey: It started with neuritis in my right eye, Then tingling on the left side of face, Occasional relapses, but it does go by; It started with neuritis in my right eye. Now eyes get double vision, gritty and dry, Limb pins and needles, lumbar pain near the base; It started with neuritis in my right eye, Then tingling on the left side of face.🖋
