What should i expect with avonex?

hi guys, I've started my weekly injections with avonex, 2 weeks ago on Wednesday they gave me quarter of an injection of Avonex and last Wednesday I got half an injection of Avonex. Next Wednesday ill be getting 3/4 of the full injection, with the first injection I got I did have some side effects. I had really bad muscles aches and pains. just like having the flu. the only thing I really hate about the injections just now is that I have to travel 3 hours for a 2 minute appointment, as they are unable to do it up in my town. I was very overwhelmed after the first injection and I was rather upset, but after my second one I basically had no symptoms. I was just very tired and I had a little bit of a muscle ache, other than that I was fine. Do you guys have any tips to help me out with starting Avonex? Thanks.

@abbie_dale , it's a shame that you are having too travel so far to start this treatment. Hopefully, you'll soon be up to the full dose and you can then manage the Avonex at home. The flu-like symptoms, e.g. chills, fever and muscle aches, are known side-effects, but these should diminish as your body gets used to the drug. A good strategy is to time the injection, so these symptoms start once you're in bed for the night. The use of paracetamol and/or Ibuprofen may also help.
